Auto window tinting in Holton

Auto glass tinting that adds privacy and security, and keeps the contents of your car out of sight of strangers.

What tint is for

Tint does two jobs. The first is privacy: darker film keeps people from looking straight into your back seat or your cargo area. The second is security. In the shop's own words, tinting will "increase your vehicle's security and privacy" and help protect the contents of your car from strangers who are walking past and looking in.

There is a comfort side as well. Film cuts glare and takes some of the heat out of a cabin that has been sitting in the sun, which is welcome on a Kansas summer afternoon. The shop tints auto glass at 501 Vermont Ave in Holton, and it has been locally owned and operated since 1983.

Film, squeegee and cure

Film is cut to fit each piece of glass, wet down with a slip solution, set in place, and worked flat with a squeegee so the water and air are pushed out to the edges. Done carefully, the result is one clean sheet with no creases, no dust trapped under it, and no lifted corners.

Then the film needs time. Moisture left under it takes days to dry out, so keep the windows up for a few days and don't roll them down to test them. A slight haze or a few tiny water pockets in that first stretch is normal and clears as the film cures. Leave the edges alone and let it finish.

Before you choose a shade, check what your own state allows for the glass on your vehicle, since rules differ by window and by place. Call (785) 364-2931 and ask when you drop it off. The shop also does windshield and glass replacement if a window needs new glass before any film goes on.

A short visit, not a long stay

A tint job is quick work compared with collision repair, so plan on a short visit. Bring the vehicle in on a weekday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, tell them which windows you want done, and ask about a pickup time. Extended hours are available by appointment.

If you are already bringing a car in for dents, paint or glass, mention the tint while you are there. It is one shop and one set of keys. Tint jobs are quick work next to a collision repair, so plan on a short visit rather than a long stay without your car.

A four-door tint job

“I went in on a Tuesday afternoon to ask about getting my 4 door windows tinted. Wednesday at 1:30 I was picking my car up for what I thought was a really good price. Timely, quality work.”
